The closest we could get to the mountains on Milos was a monastery called Agia Marina. The roads beyond that point were not paved and we had been forbidden to drive on them by Niko, our rental car agent who seemed to have all forms of travel on the island under his control.

At Agia Marina, these little red flowers were growing everywhere in the cracks of the pavement and walls. Very tenacious buggers.
